About

PUFF: A Lagrangian Trajectory Volcanic Ash Tracking Model

PUFF initializes and transports a collection of discrete ash particles, representing a sample of the eruption cloud. Transport includes:

  • Advection:
Four-dimensional U,V gridded wind field data
  • Diffusion:
Turbulence simulated by 'random-walk'
  • Fallout:
Stoke's law

Input: 4D netcdf U and V wind data.
Output: Ash netcdf file (lat,lon,z,t,size).
