...THE FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 200 PM AKDT SATURDAY 
FOR THE CHENA RIVER ABOVE THE MOOSE CREEK DAM AS WELL AS OTHER 
SMALL STREAMS IN THE AREA...


* BETWEEN ONE AND TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAS FALLEN OVER THE FAIRBANKS 
  UPLANDS OVER THE LAST 48 HOURS.

* RAINFALL HAS CAUSED THE CHENA RIVER AND NEARBY STREAMS TO RISE 
  ABOVE BANKFULL STAGE. THEY ARE EXPECTED TO CREST BETWEEN NOW AND 
  FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

* THE CHENA RIVER NEAR TWO RIVERS IS EXPECTED TO CREST TO AROUND 
  20.3 FEET TONIGHT...AND 24.9 FEET AT THE MOOSE CREEK DAM FRIDAY 
  MORNING. THIS IS ABOVE MINOR FLOOD STAGE. THE CHENA RIVER AT HUNTS 
  CREEKS IS EXPECTED TO CREST AT 16.7 FEET MIDDAY FRIDAY...WHICH IS 
  BELOW MINOR FLOOD STAGE.

* THE CHENA RIVER AT FAIRBANKS IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN BELOW FLOOD 
  STAGE. THE US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS ALASKA DISTRICT ANTICIPATES 
  OPERATING THE MOOSE CREEK DAM BEGINNING BETWEEN FRIDAY EVENING 
  AUGUST 28 TO SATURDAY EVENING AUGUST 29. THE MOOSE CREEK DAM WILL 
  BE REGULATING THE CHENA RIVER SO FLOWS DO NOT EXCEED 12 THOUSAND 
  CUBIC FEET PER SECOND IN DOWNTOWN FAIRBANKS. 

* EXPECTED IMPACTS: WATER MAY BE OVER THE ROAD AT MILE 36.9 CHENA 
  HOT SPRINGS ROAD. THERE ALSO MAY BE WATER OVER THE STILES CREEK 
  SHOOTING RANGE AND CAMPGROUND...ROSEHIP CAMPGROUND...COMPEAU 
  TRAILHEAD...AND THE GRANITE TORS TRAILHEAD. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

RECREATIONAL USERS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN 
FLOW WHICH MAY CAUSE LEVELS TO RISE OUT OF BANK IN PLACES. WATCH FOR 
AN INCREASE IN LOGS AND OTHER DEBRIS IN THE RIVER. ADDITIONALLY...AN 
INCREASE IN THE LEVEL OF GROUNDWATER TABLE IS EXPECTED. 

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED...OR 
PONDING OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS 
IMMINENT. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL ACROSS FLOODED ROADS. FIND 
ALTERNATE ROUTES. IT TAKES ONLY A FEW INCHES OF SWIFTLY FLOWING 
WATER TO CARRY VEHICLES AWAY.
