...NEAR FREEZING TEMPERATURES POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK...

TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN ABOVE NORMAL THROUGH THE WEEKEND...BUT A
SIGNIFICANT COOL DOWN IS ON THE WAY FOR EARLY NEXT WEEK FOR THE
EASTERN HALF OF NORTHERN ALASKA AND SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED
IN THE EASTERN BROOKS RANGE SUNDAY.

A STRONG COLD FRONT NEAR THE NORTH POLE SATURDAY WILL MOVE SOUTH
SUNDAY AND MONDAY OVER THE NORTHEAST HALF OF THE STATE BRINGING
MUCH COOLER CONDITIONS TO THE INTERIOR. AREAS NORTH OF THE TANANA
RIVER AND EAST OF TANANA WILL SEE HIGHS FALL TO THE 50S TO MID 60S
AND OVERNIGHT LOWS MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY FALL TO THE MID 20S TO
LOWER 40S. THE COLDEST AREAS WILL BE NORTH OF THE YUKON
RIVER...BUT TRADITIONALLY COLD SPOTS AS FAR SOUTH AS THE TANANA
RIVER MAY SEE TEMPERATURES FALL TO AROUND FREEZING FOR A SHORT
TIME TUESDAY MORNING AS WINDS DIMINISH AND SKIES CLEAR.
TRADITIONAL COLD SPOTS IN AND NEAR FAIRBANKS SUCH AS NORTH
POLE...SALCHA AND THE GOLDSTREAM VALLEY COULD SEE AREAS OF PATCHY
FROST TUESDAY MORNING.

THE WEATHER FRONT WILL ALSO BRING A MIXTURE OF RAIN AND SNOW TO
AREAS EAST OF FAIRBANKS ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY. LIGHT SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE OVER HIGHER SUMMITS ON THE TAYLOR
HIGHWAY IN THE FORTYMILE COUNTRY SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY. NO
SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED AT THIS TIME OVER THE HIGHER
SUMMITS OF THE STEESE AND ELLIOTT HIGHWAYS...HOWEVER SIGNIFICANT
ACCUMULATING SNOW IS EXPECTED OVER THE EASTERN BROOKS RANGE
SUNDAY. THE HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL TO THE EAST OF
ATIGUN PASS AT THIS TIME...HOWEVER A SMALL CHANGE IN THE TRACK OF
THE STORM TO THE WEST COULD RESULT IN SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW
FALLING OVER ATIGUN PASS ON THE DALTON HIGHWAY SUNDAY. THOSE WITH
TRAVEL PLANS TO THE EASTERN BROOKS RANGE SUNDAY SHOULD CONTINUE
TO MONITOR FOR ADDITIONAL STATEMENTS ON THIS DEVELOPING WINTER
WEATHER SYSTEM.
